China’s Unionpay promotes mobile payments in more countries

One of China Construction Bank's customer service branches has been busier than usual as many people are calling to consult about services related to using credit cards abroad and foreign exchange. China UnionPay said transactions made by Chinese citizens in other countries, including Singapore and Thailand, increased more than 90% during the Spring Festival holiday.

CC employees have been teaching vendors around Asia how to accept digital payments via QR code, now one of the most common forms of payment on the mainland. UnionPay QR code payments are now widely accepted around the world. The bulk of transactions are for hotels, transportation, dining, shopping, and tourist attractions.

UnionPay cards can be used in 181 countries and regions, with more than 55 million merchants worldwide accepting UnionPay cards.
