In this video, Pouyan Famini, MD, an endocrinologist at the UCLA Endocrine Center, explains how radioactive iodine treatment for thyroid cancer works.

Radioactive iodine therapy is a treatment that uses iodine to target and kill thyroid cells. The goal of this treatment is to destroy any remaining cancer cells in the body. This treats thyroid cancer that has spread beyond the thyroid gland, and it also helps prevent the cancer from returning.
