日本に古来からいる鶏を日本鶏と呼びます。その多くが天然記念物に指定されているものの、飼育者の減少などにより、絶滅に瀕している貴重な鶏です。残念ながら既に絶滅した日本鶏もいます。
こうした日本鶏を保護、増殖しつつ、日本鶏が持つ力を将来の養鶏に役立てようという研究をしている大学があります。国立広島大学です。
趣味千では今回、日本鶏に関することなら古今東西、この人しかいないだろうという広島大学生物生産学部の都築政起教授とコラボレーション。珍しい日本鶏が一堂に集まる広島大学の徹底取材を敢行しました。

Chickens that have been in Japan since ancient times are called Native Japanese chickens. Although many of them are designated as national natural monuments, they are precious chickens that are on the verge of extinction due to the decrease in breeders. Unfortunately, some Japanese chickens are already extinct.
There is a university that is conducting research on how to protect and breed these Japanese chickens and use the power of Japanese chickens for future poultry farming. That is National Hiroshima University.
Shumi-sen collaborated with Professor Masaoki Tsuzuki of the Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences at Hiroshima University. He is believed to be the the only person who knows everything about native Japanese chickens. We carried out a thorough coverage of Hiroshima University, where rare Japanese chickens gather together.
