The party had fielded Tashi Gyalson instead, leading to speculation of discontent within the Ladakh unit. Namgyal took to X to break his silence and deny raising his voice against the party, condemning those spreading false statements. Namgyal gained attention in 2019 for his viral speech in Lok Sabha defending the Centre's decision to repeal Article 370. The decision to drop Namgyal as a candidate came after protests against the ruling party in Leh. Tashi Gyalson, the new candidate, is the chairman-cum-chief executive councillor of LAHDC in Leh.
