STRODE ROAD - FROM FOOTBALL TO ACTING. Before Woody Strode was an actor, he was an athlete. Captain of the L.A. All-City Team, team mate with Kenny Washington and Jackie Robinson at UCLA, veteran of WWII playing with the March Field Flyers, and one of two African Americans to integrate the NFL in 1946, Woody went to Canada and won the Grey Cup for the Calgary Stampeders in 1948. A football injury ended his career and he turned to professional wrestling to make a living. He was discovered by a talent agent who cast him as a chief in Ramar of the Jungle. The rest is history.
