Hakuba Tsugaike top to bottom and fresh April snow. My decadent life continues.

My decadent life continues with fresh snow falling and me getting fresh tracks in April. Good times here in Hakuba Japan even this late in one of the best seasons ever. This is my longest vid yet but that’s because top to bottom at Tsugaike takes a long time. Add an extra 10-15 minutes if you take the ropeway up.(check last weeks video) Can I recommend coming here in spring? Well, it’s better than sitting in an office or slogging away on a jobsite. Weekends are busy with the locals loving everything about it. At this time of year everyone is at peak performance with a whole winter under their belt.
First up we had a couple of days at Goryu and Hakuba 47. Fresh snow is not uncommon at this time of year. Just 10 cms fell but the wind blew it in the right places and I was able to get some (chunky) faceshots. Knowing where to go helps. I was stoked to get some fresh tracks before it warmed up and cooked the snow at 10:30.
Tsugaike is always in my sights and covers every aspect of skiing and riding from the beginner to expert advanced. The massive booter they build during the spring each year at the top is under application only. You have to be at a certain level to hit that one. Top to bottom is, as you see, a long slide. Their mid mountain park gets better each year. The Double Black Diamond tree area is one of the best in Japan when the powder is on. Make sure you put Tsugaike on your “must do” list when you visit Hakuba.
We finish up with a ride on a rickshaw or as they are known in Japan, Jinrikisha. Masato Kamishohara is a professional athlete who thought, what better way to increase his stamina than to run around with a cart full of people. This was a great experience and I can certainly recommend doing one of his tours. I’ll leave his details below.

This weeks drink of choice was an Absolut vodka and soda with a squeeze of lemon. A good one if you are watching the calories but I do enjoy it for it’s simplicity. Probably deserves a double shot to remind you that you are having a drink.
