10 years ago, the Japan Hot 100 commenced by Billboard, marking the second time that Billboard started a chart measuring popularity outside the U.S. (the first time was Canada). It differed from the Oricon charts in that it incorporated downloads and airplay into the metric alongside sales, while Oricon focused exclusively on physical sales.
