This is the only official version of this 1987 child abuse anthem on the internet, which was just remastered and posted for the first time by the writer/producer, Richard Klender. This song became the most requested song on radio stations nationwide in December of 1987. The song broke every rule in radio (child singing, Christian theme, no promotional dollars) yet soared to the top of the charts, even despite no distribution. It was first aired, in the secular market, by video disc jockey, Cleveland Wheeler on his morning drive show in Tampa, FL. Once he played the song there were so many requests that they couldn't stop playing it... it then jumped to Scott Shannon at New York's Z-100 who received over 3000 requests per day, and then to Rick Dees at KISS-FM in L.A. (where a record number of requests, for that station, continued thru the holidays). From there, it exploded nationally in a matter of days... DJs were making "cart" copies for their sister stations since there were so few pressings to be found. It was a grass roots effort and the news story about the Lisa Sternberg abuse court case, in NY, helped spark even more listener support.
To this day, child abuse is on the rise. Please spread the awareness of this painful scar that continues to cast its shadow on our culture. Speak out...Together, we can STOP Child Abuse...

Dear Mr. Jesus

Dear Mr. Jesus, I just had to write to you
Something really scared me, when I saw it on the news
A story ‘bout a little girl, beaten black and blue
Jesus, thought I’d take this right to you

Dear Mr. Jesus, I don’t understand
Why they took her mom and dad away
I know that they don’t mean to hit, with wild and angry hands
Tell them just how big they are I pray

Please don’t let them hurt Your children
We need love and shelter from the storm
Please don’t let them hurt Your children
Won’t you keep us safe and warm

Dear Mr. Jesus, they say that she may die
Oh, I hope the doctors stop the pain
I know that you could save her and take her up to the sky
Where she would never have to hurt again

Please don’t let them hurt Your children
We need love and shelter from the storm
Please don’t let them hurt Your children
Won’t you keep us safe and warm

Dear Mr. Jesus, please tell me what to do
And please don’t tell my daddy, but my mommy hits me, too

Please don’t let them hurt Your children
We need love and shelter from the storm
Please don’t let them hurt Your children
Won’t you keep us safe and warm
