I hunted My first Alaskan Brown Bear, and it’s a Giant!!!
When we got out of our tent the following morning, there was wolf tracks all over our camp where they did some investigating on their own and then the tracks headed out of the area, so we made a new hunting plan. The plan is, we were going to attempt an archery spot and stalk on that bear that we saw the night before, then continue the wolf pursuit afterwards. That bear was bedded on Katrina’s bear carcass, eating and living on it, he isn’t going anywhere. BEARS ARE CANNIBALS.
A couple hours go by and we close a lot of distance between us and the bedded brown bear. If we can get close enough to peak over the creek bank to where he is bedded, he will only be 22yards away. At this point, we were 35 yards and don’t have any shooting lanes just yet.
As we were crawling on our knees for the last 10yards, the wind switched on us and shortly after, I can see the alder brush parting just ahead of us, getting farther and farther away.
He winded us.
I dropped the bow and grabbed the Gunwerks 338 Rum from Adam. At 180 yards, he stepped out in a small opening, Adam yelled to get him to stop and I put one in the lungs & heart. The bear tried to continue his run, but expired really quick. The video is incredible.
I personally can’t believe how big these Alaskan Brown Bears get, the pictures don’t do it justice. Hunting a predator that’s 9ft 8 is the experience of a lifetime. I would like to thank my family, Tana and Adam, for making this hunt possible.
After we worked up the bear and packed the hide out in the Barney’s Pack (145lbs 🥵) back to camp, we continued our search for the white wolf and the rest of his minions, but they didn’t show back up. Tana & Adam will hopefully turn them back up while trapping.
Now back to Idaho I go just in time for mule deer season!!!
