The Songcord (Suite) | Avatar: The Way of Water (OST) by Simon Franglen

The most prominent and recurrent musical theme in "The Way of Water" is the Songcord theme, mainly featured in the song performed by Zoe Saldana in the movie. The concept behind this song, according to composer Simon Franglen, is "this idea that the Na’vi can sing their family history", and by extension this song develops in the score into the family theme, associated with Jake, Neytiri and their children.
This theme is strongly related to the values of loyalty and unity that the family aspire to live, but it also conveys the emotions and struggles each member of the family has to confront. Musically speaking, this theme embrace feelings of love and loss, sacrifice and sadness, and even a bit of action. It's wonderful to have a musical theme associated to such a powerful emotional core, and overall this is a great contribution and expansion to the musical world of Avatar.
