What is バカ?
It means "fool" or "idiot" or "silly" or "someone obsessed with something."

It's a semi-bad word that has a range of cute to rude depending on how it is said.

While usually written in katakana or hiragana, the kanji is 馬鹿 which literally means, "horse deer."

Why? Well...

What is the etymology of バカ?
No one really knows the origin of バカ, but I do have a fun story that sounds plausible. It isn't, but it sounds plausible. And yes, it has something to do with "horses" and "deer."
