James Bigglesworth, nicknamed "Biggles", is a fictional pilot and adventurer, the title character and hero of the Biggles series of adventure books, written for young readers by W. E. Johns (1893–1968). Biggles made his first appearance in the story The White Fokker, published in the first issue of Popular Flying magazine and again as part of the first collection of Biggles stories, The Camels Are Coming (both 1932). Johns continued to write "Biggles books" until his death in 1968, the series eventually spanning nearly a hundred volumes – including novels and short story collections – most of the latter with a common setting and time. The Australian Radio serial was produced by AWA in Sydney and was broadcast on 2GB, Monday to Thursday at 6.15pm. The Role of “Biggles” was played by Rex Waldron, James Mills and Moray Powell. Walter Sullivan was“Bertie”, Diana Perryman was “Pat”, Max Osbiton “Algy” and “Ginger” by Leonard Bullen. They used two pieces of music from the Chappell library to signature the serial. “Dramatic Agitato” from Chappells Changing Scenes #2 provided the opening fanfare and then they bridged into “The Duel”. Both pieces composed by Sidney Torch and played by the Queens”s Hall Light Orchestra conducted by the composer. The catalogue number was C-337.
