Roger and Laura Meier began collecting with an interest in the graphic works of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec—one of the pioneers of modern printmaking and artist extraordinaire of Parisian nightlife at the end of the 19th century. Advised by museum curators, scholars and respected dealers, the Meiers then moved to expand their interest to the Nabis and eventually the Impressionists.

The Meier Family Collection holds one of the finest assemblages of paintings by the Nabis still in private hands. It tells the story of this fascinating movement, from its birthplace in Pont Aven to the interiors of Paris apartments. United by a belief in the expressive power of color and form, the Nabis were a fascinating brotherhood of artists that formed a collective in the late 1880s to break down the barriers between art and craft.

The Meier Family Collection will be sold at the Modern Day Auction in New York on 16 May 2024.
