This arrangement of Bach's "Art of the fugue" is by Romanian conductor and composer Ludovic Bács, who was born on January 19, 1930, in Petrila, Southern Transylvania. After studying in his hometown, in Petroşani, Cluj and Moscow, Bács joined the Bucharest Radio Symphony Orchestra as a viola player in 1957, but he soon changed to conducting, which became his main profession. From the 60s on he was chief conductor of the Bucharest Radio Chamber Orchestra and professor at the Bucharest Conservatory. What is special about him is that he championed both contemporary and ancient music - he is sort of a Romanian Ernest Bour and at the same time sort of a Romanian Christopher Hogwood. In 1966 he founded his own ancient music ensemble which he is conducting here, "Musica Rediviva". He died in Bucharest on June 30, 2015.
