SUN EIGHT CO, INC.

Founded in Fullerton, California in 1973
Acquired in Placentia, California in 1998

Founder: Herbert Conway with only an older Bridgeport Mill, Bridgeport Profiler, an air compressor, and some tools and tooling. My dad began this venture into being an aerospace job shop contractor.

Growing to be too big and too spread out across many locations by 1979, my dad had built a set of buildings and a street in 1979 through 1980 in the neighboring city of Placentia, California where this company was located until the business itself was acquired.

From this video, the company was near two times the size it is in this video at the time of its acquisition. I Lance Conway had nothing to do with this company or its sale from 1993 through to it being acquired in 1998.

LOCATION of a PRECISION MACHINE COMPANY

Located in Southern California in the County of Orange County not far from Disneyland Anaheim, Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park where my mother jarred boysenberry jam invented by Mr Boysen for Mr. Knott with Mrs. Knott in the rear of what became the amusement park, the Knott descendants later built a building to package which to this day, the jams next door to the Sun Eight company building, Angel Stadium and the Anaheim Honda Center named The Pond was a lesser known place. Built sitting atop a bluff looking out across Orange County towards the Pacific Ocean Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, Huntington Beach about 20 miles to the west a place that made things in aerospace grade materials and was called Sun Eight Co., Inc.

TYPES of AEROSPACE COMPONENTS we MACHINED

Sun Eight Co. is one of many Southern California suppliers or job shops that produced precision machined parts and sub-assemblies for the major aerospace companies of those times.
Metals we machined were aluminum, magnesium, beryllium copper, steel, stainless steel, titanium, and other high chromium alloyed steels.

We programmed all jobs in-house, upgrading the software and the computer systems to program with from 1981 through 1998 to stay in with the latest in technology for those times.

Machinery we operated were 3 axis CNC and 5 axis CNC in both vertical and bridge or gantry milling machines and had an advanced Q/C Quality Control inspection department systems controls for quality parts flow and dimensional tracking, a milling or machining support department, tool grinding department, deburr and finishing department and in house maintenance personal. We had additional outside supporting machine shop operations, a material and job tooling warehousing support building.

Material sawing parts coatings and blanchard grinding were performed by utilizing outside suppliers.

SUN EIGHT CO. CUSTOMER LIST

Sun Eight customers were few so you need to understand an important lesson here, you need to treat your customers like gold and had no more important meaning then in the aerospace industry because your customer base would be maybe 5 or 6 if you worked hard and were lucky enough to get work from some or all of these companies globally.

Douglas Aircraft became McDonnell Douglas and is now all part of The Boeing Company.

Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, BAE System, UK. Airbus, (IAI) Israel Aerospace Industries, Hartwell, Rockwell International, Embraer Aerospace, Bombardier Aerospace, AVCORP and Hughes Aircraft Company
