Mahima Chaudhry, originally named Ritu Chaudhry, is an Indian actress and model renowned for her work in Hindi films. In the 1990s, before stepping into the world of cinema, Mahima undertook several modeling assignments and featured in numerous television commercials. Mahima Chaudhry's acting journey commenced with the 1997 film "Pardes," a patriotic romantic drama, marking her debut in the industry. This noteworthy beginning earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut and a nomination for Best Actress.
Born in Darjeeling, West Bengal, India, as Ritu Chaudhry [Mahima Chaudhry], she pursued her education at Dow Hill in Kurseong until class 10 and later attended Loreto College, Darjeeling. Before the release of "Pardes," Ritu adopted the name Mahima Chaudhry, as suggested by her director Subhash Ghai, who believed that the letter 'M' brought luck to leading actresses in his films.
Mahima Chaudhry went on to carve out a successful career with diverse roles in films such as "Daag" (1999), "Dhadkan" (2000), "Kurukshetra" (2000), and "Baghban" (2003). She received critical acclaim for her performances in "Dil Kya Kare" (1999), "Lajja" (2001), and "Dobara" (2004), garnering nominations for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Her career journey began as a Video Jockey, and in films, Mahima Chaudhry portrayed a wide array of characters, ranging from a village girl in "Pardes" to a stubborn wife in "Kurukshetra".
Her filmography includes roles in "Dil Hai Tumhaara" (2002), "Zameer: The Fire Within," "Film Star," "Home Delivery" (2005), and "Souten: The Other Woman" (2006). In 2010, Mahima Chaudhry starred in "Pusher" and the thriller "Mumbhaii - The Gangster," alongside Om Puri and Sanjay Kapoor.
In 1999, during the filming of "Dil Kya Kare," Mahima Chaudhry experienced a car crash in Bangalore, resulting in facial injuries that required the removal of multiple glass pieces.
She married architect Bobby Mukherji in 2006, but the couple separated in 2013. In 2022, Mahima Chaudhry faced a personal challenge as she was diagnosed with and treated for breast cancer.
