Have you ever wondered why you seem to get your period on a different day every month? Well, we’ve got some answers for you.
Here’s the thing, it’s much more common than you think. The reality is most cycles are 21-35 days long, but that doesn’t mean the cycle will be exactly the same each time.
Here are some reasons it varies.
Stress: stress affects just about everything in the body, including your cycle. Stress could change, or completely halt your period.
Pregnancy and childbirth: any time you miss your period there is a chance you could be pregnant. If you are sexually active and miss your period, taking a pregnancy test is a good idea.
Date alterations: given the number of days in a month vs. the number of days in your cycle, things could naturally move around.
Hormone imbalances or changes due to birth control pills: birth control pills can alter your cycle because they change hormone levels.
Medical conditions: medical conditions like PCOS or endometriosis can cause irregular periods.
Lifestyle changes: a sudden change in weight, exercise routine, birth control or breastfeeding can alter your period.
Menopause: menopause may cause your cycle to become longer, shorter or just change.
