Kip Thorne, a Nobel Prize-winning physicist and the Feynman Professor of Theoretical Physics Emeritus at Caltech, is the author of the bestselling books Black Holes and Time Warps and The Science of Interstellar. Thorne was an executive producer for the 2014 film Interstellar. For "bridging the worlds of science and the humanities," Thorne received Rockefeller University's Lewis Thomas Prize for Writing about Science. He lives in Pasadena, California.

映画「インターステラー」にどっぷりハマってしまい、その科学考証に迫ってみたくてこの本を読んでいます。
”買ってはみたものの、ホンモノの科学者の解説だから自分には難解かな？”と危惧していましたが・・なんとこの本はそんな危惧を吹っ飛ばすほど、すごく読みやすく面白くて楽しいです。
”数式がビッシリ”ということは全然なく、分かりやすい図解と、映画のシーンの写真もたっぷりです。全然飽きません。
しかも映画のストーリーの流れに沿って、ワームホール、ブラックホール、５次元空間、テセラクト、そしてクーパーとマーフの”交信”の仕組みについてなどの解説が続きます。
それと、きっとキップ・ソーンさんの人柄なのでしょう、人間的でユーモラスで暖かい文章で、難解なはずの最先端科学を優しく解説してくれています。
もちろん英語ですけど、さほど難しくありません。（アメリカならば中学生、もしくはちょっとマセた小学生なら十分読破できるレベルです。）

ｶﾘﾌｫﾙﾆｱ工科大学の名誉教授でﾌﾞﾗｯｸﾎｰﾙ等の理論物理の権威であり、本作品の科学顧問であるｷｯﾌﾟ・ｿｰﾝ教授が、丁寧に具体的に、映画で分かりにくかった物理現象を分かり易く説明している。映画に登場する地球の気候変動、ｶﾞﾘｶﾞﾝﾁｭｱ（ﾌﾞﾗｯｸﾎｰﾙ）、ﾜｰﾑﾎｰﾙ、ﾏﾝ博士の惑星、ｸﾗｲﾏｯｸｽに出てくるﾃｾﾗｸﾄ（過去に通じた擬似四次元空間？）等で、その詳細が？？だった部分について、仮説ではあるがﾓﾃﾞﾙを用いて説明されている。物理に興味が有る方なら、本書で映画の面白さが倍増するはず。それにしても、ここまで理論的に真剣に考えているとは想像していなかった。ちなみに、映画の黒板で難しそうな方程式が書かれている場面が出ているが、これはｷｯﾌﾟｿｰﾝ教授が書いたものらしい。

Es un libro muy interesante que te explica bien los conceptos físicos que se tratan en la película. Muy recomendado el libro para los amantes de Interstellar que quieren saber más y comprender mejor algunos puntos que se te pasan por alto viendo el film. Me ha encantado.

Excelente libro que retrata el lado cientifico de Interestellar. La pelicula me fascino tan pronto la vi, entendí la mayoria de los planteamientos pero en este libro te adentras un poco mas en los principios. La calidad en las paginas es muy buena y esta lleno de color. Vale la pena.

Half way through the book, would make you realize that so much scientific thoughts & work has gone in making of the movie. For example, the image of Saturn after they had crossed over the wormhole was the calculated result.

In their team, they had physicist & engineers who would carry on calculations often in several iterations to get to the results or number of options to choose from.

Some of the outrageous requirements from Christopher Nolan were also nailed down to clarify whether that is indeed a truth, educated guess or speculation (that's how all scientific notes are categorized in the book anyway) based on the scientific knowledge that's known at the time of movie making/scripting/production.

I have to admit that there parts in the book that I had to read several times, think for several days & then move on especially imaging gargantua & Nolan's complex tesseract (and time as physical element).

The quality of book is supreme and the images are really beautiful...

There is just so much more, way too many fascinating, wildly vivid & subtle (and few not-shown) events that contributes to the movie. For example, the skyhigh Miller's planet's wave...could not have imagined the reason of it. I do not wish to disclose more spoilers, you need to read it to fully appreciate this.

The universe is truly weird, terrifying yet hauntingly beautiful, thanks Kipp for putting this book through to show the glimpses of it.
