How to design HOUSE EXTENSION FOUNDATIONS for self builders. Avoid waiting, save cash

If you're wondering whether you might be able to design and build your own foundations, I'm here to tell you it's possible and show you how, with as little as a tape measure and pen and paper.
I'll often do this measuring using a 3d drawing, as it's about volume not area, so you need the 3 dimensions. It’s very easy to create your own foundations model in a CAD programme, here I’m using Sketchup which is free to download. See my other video where I go through in detail how I create my dreams with my Sketchup workflow.

Using the drawings I show you how to create here, we can work out our concrete volume by using the simple formulas which I talk you through. And so we can get our approximate volume of concrete in cubic metres.
For something as large as a home extension, you will need to get your dimensions and design confirmed by a structural engineer. So I’ll send these drawings to them for a check.
I go through the likely costs for a structural engineer to check your work in the video.
Once we have worked this out, we can begin setting out our house extension foundations by creating the trenches. See my other video here for how to do this.
