Sotetsu (original name is Sagami Railway. Sotetsu is an abbreviation of that name, but this name has spread, so the name Sotetsu is now actively used) is a 44.4 km long railway in central Kanagawa Prefecture. It is a private railway with routes of .

It opened in 1926. The original purpose of this railway was to transport gravel. The year before this, the Great Kanto Earthquake occurred, and the cities of Tokyo and Kanagawa were destroyed. Many brick buildings collapsed and it was realized that brick buildings were unsuitable for Japan, which is prone to earthquakes, so concrete was attracting attention as a viable alternative. Gravel is a resource for making concrete. A railway was built to transport gravel from the banks of the Sagami River, which runs through the center of Kanagawa Prefecture.

Sotetsu extended its line from central Kanagawa Prefecture to the east, reaching Yokohama Station, and began to contribute to passenger transportation. After that, many gravel transport railways declined as the extraction of gravel from riverbeds was prohibited, but Sotetsu developed as a railway that carried commuters.

This video covers the 10.5km section from Yokohama Station to Futamatagawa Station. Futamatagawa Station is an operating base located almost in the center of the Sotetsu line. A branch line (Sōtetsu–JR Link Line) heading for Hasawa Kokudai Station and Shin-Yokohama Station branches off from Nishitani Station, which is two stations before, and demand for this line is expected to increase in the future.
