Durga is a blind woman with a talent for shaping pottery. She is poor and lives with her widowed mother in a village. She meets Rohit aka Babu, who saves her life. The pair become friends and fall in love. Durga creates a clay bust of Rohit by feeling Rohit's facial features, but weeps because she cannot see it. Rohit tells her he will find a way to help her see again.
When Durga's mother is killed by village goon Rana, Rohit promises to marry her and take care of her. He takes her to a hospital where she will have surgery to regain her sight. While she is recovering (before the bandages are removed), Rana, angry that he was rejected by Durga, attempts to murder Rohit, who goes missing.
Upon receiving news of Rohit's death, Durga goes into depression. Dr. Prasad, her doctor, takes her under his wing and takes her to Switzerland. There, she meets Raj, a businessman who falls in love with her. He, too, is grieving a dead friend and recognizes that Durga is also lonely. Through his persistence and kindness, Durga finally accepts Raj's marriage proposal. Unknown to both, Durga's first love and Raj's dead friend are the same man, Rohit.

दुर्गा एक अंधी महिला है जिसमें मिट्टी के बर्तनों को आकार देने की प्रतिभा है। वह गरीब है और अपनी विधवा माँ के साथ एक गाँव में रहती है। उसकी मुलाकात रोहित उर्फ बाबू से होती है, जो उसकी जान बचाता है। यह जोड़ी दोस्त बन जाती है और प्यार हो जाता है। दुर्गा रोहित के चेहरे की विशेषताओं को महसूस करके रोहित की एक मिट्टी की मूर्ति बनाती है, लेकिन रोती है क्योंकि वह उसे नहीं देख पाती है। रोहित उससे कहता है कि वह उसे फिर से देखने में मदद करने का एक तरीका ढूंढेगा।
जब दुर्गा की माँ को गाँव के गुंडे राणा ने मार डाला, तो रोहित ने उससे शादी करने और उसकी देखभाल करने का वादा किया। वह उसे एक अस्पताल ले जाता है जहां उसकी दृष्टि वापस पाने के लिए उसकी सर्जरी की जाएगी। जबकि वह ठीक हो रही है (पट्टियाँ हटाए जाने से पहले), राणा, इस बात से नाराज़ है कि उसे दुर्गा ने अस्वीकार कर दिया है, रोहित की हत्या करने का प्रयास करता है, जो लापता हो जाता है।
रोहित की मौत की खबर पाकर दुर्गा अवसाद में चली गई। उसके डॉक्टर डॉ. प्रसाद उसे अपने संरक्षण में लेते हैं और स्विट्जरलैंड ले जाते हैं। वहां उसकी मुलाकात एक बिजनेसमैन राज से होती है जिसे उससे प्यार हो जाता है। वह भी, एक मृत मित्र का शोक मना रहा है और पहचानता है कि दुर्गा भी अकेली है। अपनी दृढ़ता और दयालुता के माध्यम से, दुर्गा अंततः राज के विवाह प्रस्ताव को स्वीकार कर लेती है। दोनों इस बात से अनजान हैं कि दुर्गा का पहला प्यार और राज का मृत दोस्त एक ही आदमी हैं, रोहित।
