Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim released a video late Sunday announcing the suspensions of two officers in connection to their roles investigating the deaths of college student Lauren Smith-Fields and 53-year-old Brenda Lee Rawls.
The two women died on the same day and in the same police precinct. The Bridgeport mayor said the two detectives are facing discipline for their “lack of sensitivity to the public and their failure to follow police procedure in the handling of these two matters."
Ganim also announced that he would work with the police chief to make changes to the police department's policies and practices when it comes to notifying family members of a death after Smith-Fields' family said they weren't even contacted on the day she died.
