尚道館創設80周年記念道場祭 岡田守正館長三人掛け

当館は昭和10年より本年（令和4年）で87周年を迎えますが、平成30年に一般社団法人 伝統文化保存継承学舎・尚道学院を設立し、その主催事業として位置付け、これまでの活動を更に発展継承出来るよう現在努めております。
そしてその法人が目指すものは、名称が示す通り、「伝統文化」（これは単に剣道という一流儀を指してのものではありません）の保存・継承と学びにあります。
尚道館においては、その中の主催事業として、剣道における「道場」での活動という伝統文化を後世に伝える事が目的です。
私どもは「町道場」と呼ばれた個人道場におけるその「しきたり」を踏まえた有形無形問わず様々な事柄そのものも「伝統文化」として捉えて日々活動しております。したがって、この活動は理念において、これまで世によく存在する○○教室、○○スクールとは根本的に一線を画す取り組みという事が言えます。
剣道（剣術）は幕末から明治期にかけての時期に隆盛期を迎えました。それは、それまで武士のみがたしなむ事が許された「剣術」が、その時代になって町道場においてはどんな階層の者でも学べるものと変わったからです。そして特に幕末の江戸にあった道場は地方の各藩から許可を得て留学してくる場所にもなり、現在でいう所の大学のような場所でもありました。ここで当時の志士と呼ばれた多くの若者達は剣を通じて武を養い、学問、教養を修め、各地域の思想に刺激し合いながらネットワークを広げて行き、後に時代を動かしていったのです。
時代は変わって現代の流儀、流派を名乗らなくなった剣道の世界においても、このような時代から受け継がれる道場での師弟、同門の思想や精神。教授法等は貴重な「無形の文化遺産」であるべきと捉えております。これは単に技術の伝達だけでは無い、精神も含めてと言う事であります。しかしながらその時代とは全ての事が変わった現代の日本では、すでにこの「町道場」という場は、絶滅の危機に瀕していると言っても過言ではありません。厳しい状況ではありますが、剣道という「道」を、真剣に学ぶ「場」を世の中から無くしてはならないと思っています。
当館で剣道を学んで頂く方々はまずその大きな趣旨の賛同者になって頂きたいと思っております。これまで尚道館が80年以上も創設の地で活動を続けてこられたのも、この間三代に渡り常に多くの賛同者が、道場そのものを力強く支援下さったからこそであります。
その事に感謝しながら、目前に控える100周年に向かって皆様と共にこの貴重な取り組みを更に大きくしながら、継続すべく精進して参りたいと存じます。

This year (2022) marks the 87th anniversary of the founding of the Kendo-Kenkyukan, and in 2008, we established the General Incorporated Association for the Preservation and Inheritance of Traditional Culture, Shodo-Gakuin, and are currently working to further develop and carry on its activities.
As the name suggests, the goal of the organization is the preservation, transmission, and study of "traditional culture" (this does not simply refer to one style of kendo).
Shodokan, as one of its sponsored programs, aims to pass on the traditional culture of kendo activities in the dojo to future generations.
We consider the various matters, both tangible and intangible, based on the "customs" of private dojos called "machi-dojos" as "traditional culture" and we are working on a daily basis to preserve it. Therefore, in terms of philosophy, our activities are fundamentally different from the "XX" schools and "XX" schools that have existed in the world until now.
Kendo (swordsmanship) enjoyed a period of prosperity from the end of the Edo period to the Meiji period. This was because kenjutsu, which until then had been reserved for samurai, became something that could be learned by all classes of people in town dojos. Dojos in Edo at the end of the Edo period were also places where local clans received permission to study, and were like universities of today. Here, many young men and women, who were called "shishi" in those days, cultivated their military prowess through swordsmanship, studied and cultivated their culture, and expanded their network by stimulating each other with ideas from different regions, and later, they became the driving force of the times.
Even in the world of kendo, which has changed over the years and no longer calls itself a modern style or school, the ideas and spirit of the masters and disciples in the dojo, as well as the spirit and teaching methods, have been passed down from generation to generation. We believe that the teaching methods and other such methods should be a valuable "intangible cultural heritage". This is not only the transmission of techniques, but also the spirit of the dojo. However, it is no exaggeration to say that in today's Japan, where everything has changed since those days, the "town dojo" is already on the verge of extinction. Although the situation is difficult, I believe that we must not let the world lose the "place" to learn the "way" of kendo seriously.
We hope that those who study kendo at Shodokan will first of all become supporters of this great purpose. The Shodokan has been able to continue its activities for more than 80 years in the place where it was founded because of the constant and strong support of many supporters over the past three generations of the Shodokan.
We are grateful for their support, and together with you all, we will continue to work hard to expand and continue this valuable initiative as we approach our 100th anniversary.
