Congratulations! You have made it through the initial round of the search selection process, and your credentials, scholarship record, and teaching experiences have advanced you to the next round of evaluation: the interview. As higher education budgets become tighter, the use of phone and Skype/Facetime interviews are becoming an increasing popular method of vetting candidates for on-campus job interviews. These interviews may serve multiple purposes for search committees, including getting a sense of candidates' personalities, assessing communication skill sets, gauging candidate job interest, and answering questions that may have been raised through the application materials. The formal interview itself usually accompanies a presentation of research and/or a teaching demonstration as a part of the on campus interview, and is one of the main factors in selecting new hires. This workshop will provide you with advice and tips on how to prepare for, engage in, and ultimately succeed at face-to-face, phone, and virtual interviews.
