Our journey begins at the secluded Hewett Cemetery, perched on a steep hill, where we pay our respects to James and Nellie Hewett, my 5th great-grandparents. We take the time to clean their graves and explore the history of the other two graves at this intimate family site.
Next, we travel to another Hewett Cemetery down the road, home to my 4th great-grandparents, Pernell Willis Hewett and Elizabeth. This larger cemetery also holds the grave of my 3rd great-grandmother, Susan Joiner, among many other distant relatives.
We conclude our pilgrimage at the grave of Susan's husband, Shady Joiner, my 3rd great-grandfather, taking a moment to clean his grave and reflect on the legacy left behind.
