On 2nd December 2001, the 1st leg of the 2001 Suntory
Championship was played at Ecopa Stadium in Shizuoka. Old rivals Júbilo Iwata (blue & white) and Kashima Antlers
(red & navy) met in the final for the third time in five years.
Júbilo had been the far more consistent team over the course
of the whole season, amassing 17 more points than Kashima, but the 2001 Final turned out to be closer
than anyone could have imagined...
