Asakusa Pork Cutlet "Yayoi" was founded in 1940 by the grandparents of the current proprietress. The restaurant has a history that will celebrate its 82nd anniversary as of 2023; the store was damaged in the Tokyo Air Raid of 1945, but the grandmother continued to operate in a prefabricated building while waiting for her grandfather, who was off to war, to return home.
The store's name comes from the fact that her grandfather was born in March of Yayoi, his name was Yataro, and the store opened in March of Yayoi as well.
