It’s important to note that I used a totally different sound mixing method with this arrangement, which might cause the track to sound overly treble oriented for certain brands of headphones. It’ll be interesting to see if people like the new style less or more. I was just originally doing P-R-O-G-R-A-M and Heart of Nova on my own, TNH offered to help and provided me with a customized midi for the Star Dream Soul OS section at – 12:10. He added a ton of references to other Kirby tracks among other things. (Seriously, that “Another Dimension” at the end was ingenious) I worked the new instruments in and created a few different renditions, ended up mixing two of them together for this arrangement. Just about every note in that section was put down by TNH, though I did change/add a couple things. The thing is, when TNH offered to help, I had a rough rendition of my own Super Nova remix, but I ended up reworking it like four times and I just couldn’t get it to sounds how I wanted. If I didn’t get this help, the vid would have been half as long and even less than half as good.
We originally ended up with an eight-minute track featuring two renditions of P-R-O-G-R-A-M and one rendition of Heart of Nova, which, I felt was more than adequate for my channel… But I felt pretty stupid having done phase one, now tackling phase three/four, and hadn’t yet remixed phase two. I figured I might as well rework my old Mind in a PROGRAM midi and make it a whole medley!
So, I told TNH about this idea…. and he made almost a full Mind in a PROGRAM remix for me. Like, wow.
I’m seeing some elements in his rendition that are almost reworked from some of the stuff I added for my old remix. Too bad they’re so much better in his version. (Seriously, you did an awesome job, man) It was like he was saying, “Alright, I see what you were TRYING to do, now lemme show you how its done.” Plus, the supporting strings on his mix are just so majestic. I couldn’t think of a better way to start the video, and I can’t thank him enough.
The Heart of Nova remix was a tricky thing. I tried to send TNH an audio file to edit, but you know technology. Technology doesn’t cooperate… TNH ended up remaking some of the clips from the remix from scratch and sent them back to me with his additions. Dude! Major props!
As for the rest of the medley, I had a lot of trouble making phase 3, but I think I’m pretty happy with the outcome. Phase 2 was quite easy to make, and it turned out much better than some of the tracks that take me weeks. Which makes no sense.
Well, that’s pretty much it. Star Abraham made some incredibly cool artwork for the video, just as before! When I boot up my browser and that stuff pops up on my screen as a new addition, I get so excited. Whenever something new of his gets uploaded, man…. It’s just tons of fun to watch it all get put together, and I’m really humbled to have someone willing to work with me at that level. Didn’t know how I was gonna follow up the sweet visuals from the last video without his help, but he offered to provide some insane work once more!
Random note! I think a lot of people wanted the riff from the HON remix here that was featured at the end of my old Mind in a PROGRAM remix. There is a similar riff, but it’s kinda quiet during this rendition.
PUBLIC MIDI COLLAB INFO BELOW!
Alright, here’s the deal! I’ve made my own midi rendition of the boss theme from Robobot, and you have full permission to edit it with any programs you like. (Add different instruments, totally restructure notes, etc.) You may then upload it to your own channel, SoundCloud or whatever you like. It doesn’t matter to me if you give credit, but you may want to tell your listeners that you used a source midi with permission so they don’t get skeptical when hearing similar sounding remixes that use the same file as a base. There’s a small chance that I’ll add more midis with different Kirby remixes, but we’ll see how this goes!
