Part 2 of Rafael Nadal ripping the felt off some tennis balls with unbelievable intensity at the 2022 Australian Open!

Here we see Rafa practicing his groundstrokes, volleys & overhead smashes!

Rafa is looking focused as he puts in the reps on this +30°C day (+86°F) 🥵☀️ with Carlos Moya and Marc Lopez!

What I find interesting about his volley technique is that he grips the racket higher than he does on his groundstrokes. You can see at 11:55 that he has his hand almost in the middle of the racket which would give the benefits of more manuverability of the racket head but less leverage on the ball. Leverage isn't too important for the volleys as you are simply directing the ball and meeting it at contanct, predominantly slowing the pace of the ball. Although, when Rafa puts away volleys, he does hold the racket lower to get more leverage when he has time to do so.

In my opinion, Rafa has one of the greatest overhead smashes of all time! This is because of how powerful/easily/consistantly he can put away shots. He is not known to be a net player but when he does go to the net, he choses and executes his shots to perfection.

Rafa gets so close you can see his Richard Mille watch on his right arm! Other than being an excellent time-piece, it essentially costs as much as a house!

Sorry that sometimes the glass infront of the camera is dirty, but it dosen't last long.

0:00 - Moderate intensity groundstrokes
5:55 - High intensity groundstrokes
11:50 - Volleys
14:11 - Overhead smashes
15:02 - Thanks for watching!
