The process in the cycle of eukaryotic transcription that involves gaining access to the promoters because the genome of eukaryotes is packaged in the form of chromatin. Therefore, histones must be removed in order for GTFs and RNA polymerases to begin the initiation step. We discuss THREE MAIN MECHANISMS to solve this problem: CpG islands, NDR sites, and pioneer transcription factors. Finally, we also touch a bit on the role of enhancers to make the promoter regions more accessible.
