This is Appenzell, cowbell country and story-book friendly. According to legend, an angel was flying over these hills with a sack filled of houses. A sharp peak tore a hole in the sack, and lots of chalets sprinkled over the countryside. To this day, the farms and hamlets remain widely scattered, and the canton of Appenzell remains Switzerland's most traditional.
